I am about to give you a list of things to do following an accident. With any luck you will read this in time. The reality is some of this advice will be lost because most the time we have to be reactive in an accident. It's not like we expected to get in an accident. Hopefully.
The most important thing you must do is take care of yourself and your family. Forget about some laundry list of things you think you need to do. Focus on you and your family.
Were You Injured?
Is anyone seriously injured? Get medical help there immediately.
If you come into the office and tell me that all you could think to do at the time was make sure you and your family were OK, I will applaud you.
My point is simply that the only thing you can do that a lawyer typically can't either fix or work around is that injury you may live with the rest of your life, but didn't need to.
Did You Do Any Of These? Bonus.
Did you talk to people who saw the accident and save their names and numbers? Bonus.
Did you take pictures of all the vehicles involved? Excellent.
Did you call the police? You're on a roll.
Did you write down anything the other drivers said, possibly draw a diagram of the accident? You're dynamite!
Did you avoid pesky phone calls from that insurance company? Great.
Make Sure To Get Treated
If you did the above, you're in excellent shape. But again, the main concern is your health and the health of your family. Get to a doctor and get an opinion on if you're OK. Don't wait. Do it now. Then call us so we can make sure you're treated fairly by that pesky insurance company.
